Little Ones Leave The Nest

Little Ones Leave The Nest - poem by Leanne Flower

Feeling rushed, dashing around here and there

Getting kids ready, brushing teeth, combing hair

Being a sergeant major, shouting commands

‘Hurry up, come here, stop doing handstands’

Feel tired and could literally sleep on a pin

Tried controlled crying but eventually gave in

You’ve had mess on your clothes without a doubt

And been told you’re wearing your top inside out

Toys and ‘stuff’ are literally scattered everywhere

But you’re at the point where you just don’t care

That’s being a parent, and you’re doing just fine

Just take a breather, grab a tea or a glass of wine

Sleep when you can, ask for help, you’re not alone

See family and friends or just pick up the phone

For this period of stress will be over in a while

And you’ll look back at this time with a big smile

Time goes by so fast and little ones leave the nest

Enjoy your time together and forget about the rest
